Find out how we handcraft every single Hanna Hat - follow the step-by-step process that goes into making one of Ireland's iconic products.
Read moreOur story begins in 1924 when David Hanna Snr established a tailoring company in Donegal, on Ireland's Northwest Coast.
By the early 60’s David recognised that the demand for tailored suits was declining and the business needed to take a new direction. The Hanna Hat as we know it today was born in 1964. It took 4.5hrs to craft, and was given the name “Hanna Hat”, Style no. 84.
In 1974 David’s sons took over the management of David Hanna & Sons ensuring the tradition and quality of their father’s work was retained.
David Hanna & Sons became Hanna Hats of Donegal Ltd in 1986. John continued creating innovative tweed products using the traditions passed on from his father. At the heart of everything he created was Quality and Craftsmanship.
Today, John’s children carry their father and grandfather’s vision as a third generation family business. We take pride in the fact that all of our products are our own original designs and each one is assembled by hand in Donegal.
Steeped in history and heritage, each creation is ‘a little piece of luxury from Donegal’ - John Joseph Hanna (1944 - 2019)
