The JP Cap, named after a 3rd generation Hanna, is a modern take on the traditional Newsboy style. Like the Eight Panel cap, it also has eight panels but the proportions are reduced making it less voluminous than the traditional style.
Material
Linen, which is made from the flax plant recognised by its “wee blue blossom”, has a long history in Ireland stretching back to the 1st millennium, and it was one of the main industries during the plantation of Ulster from the 1600’s. There are only a handful of mills producing Irish Linen today, and we are proud to support this ancient industry.

The JP Cap Linen features a long, curved peak with a concealed stud button that frames the face whilst providing protection from the elements, and a traditional fabric-covered button on the crown known as a Squatcho.

I love Hanna hats! I'm an American theater and opera director living and working in Kobe, Japan. I've been wearing Hanna hats since for over 40 years--still have every one and many occasionally appear in my theater productions. I treasure the older ones . . . but the new designs are a knockout. I recently decided that since the weather has been gettin increasingly hot in the summer, and because I love the JP design and look, I'm wearing the charcoal gray linen JP now. I got the winter version of the JP in dark charcoal gray and loved how dressy and sharp looking it was. This linen one is spectacular for spring and summer.

I have quite of collection of newsboy cap, about 25, but it is my first from Hanna Hats. And I'm very fond of this JP design. Quite different than my others. This linen cap is very cool but I have to consider a tweed one for winter now. And maybe I must try the Connery Cap too. It's a pity I can't try them in France.

I love this hat. My only issue is that attached to the crown side of the snap, between the crown and the liner, is a very large (4.5”X1”) piece of plastic? That’s enough plastic to warrant being included in the materials list. I’ve had to unsnap it and curl the plastic down so it stays close to the brim. I bought this cap for the beautiful linen and craftsmanship, and plastic is an unexpected, unnatural addition.
I usually wear an XL, but this hat is an L and wasn’t quite snug enough. The headband on this hat is kind of unusual in that it doesn’t allow for a hat size reducer behind it, it’s sewn down, top and bottom. I used an adhesive terry cloth sweatband to make the size just perfect. Now it’s my go-to summer cap.
I’ve already forgotten whatever petty thing I was complaining about. Five stars. You guys can send me the other three colors now and I’ll be sure to pay you at some point. Promise.

Just a very comfortable very nice looking summer cap. I've received more compliments on this cap than all my other Hanna Hats put together. Goes with just about anything you wear. And, like all other cloth caps, you never get hat band head. The oatmeal color is perfect for my taste. I highly recommend a linen JP cap.

Unfortunately, it always slips a bit too low over my face.

Didn’t realize it was linen until received. HH fit gauge doesn’t align with reality of my head size. 7 3/4 inches doesn’t = XL (ordered) but rather XXL (did not order). Trying to make do with the smaller size. We’ll see how it goes.
