Hanna Hats is a third‑generation family businesswho specialise in handcrafted headwear and accessories all made here in our workshop in Donegal Town, Ireland. We are proud to be the last remaining hat and cap manufacturer in Ireland, with a dedicated team of over 25 skilled craftspeople making each hat in our workshop. Hanna Hats is run by siblings John Patrick and Eleanor Hanna, who continue the legacy of their father and grandfather.

All Hanna Hats caps and hats are handcrafted in our workshop in Donegal Town, Ireland.

Our best‑selling flat cap styles are:

• Vintage Cap – the traditional flat cap which has a wide body, flat peak with a stud fastener.
• Donegal Touring Cap – has a narrow, streamlined body with a curved stitched down peak.

These are excellent starting points if you’re unsure which style to choose.

We provide detailed descriptions on each product page, explaining fit, body shape and peak style so you know exactly what you’re ordering.

Our Vintage Cap is the ultimate traditional flat cap. It features a wide, full body and a flat peak with a stud fastener. Diametre based on a size medium: 23cm/ 9”

Our Donegal Touring Cap has a narrow, more streamlined body with a curved, stitched‑down peak, giving it a slightly more tailored and modern look. Diametre based on a size medium: 21cm/8 1/4“

Each of these caps are eight panel, newsboy styles:

• Eight Piece Cap: Full‑bodied with a classic flat peak
• JP Cap: Neat‑fitting body with a curved extended peak
• Connery Cap: A hybrid of the two – neat body with a flat peak

(Based on a Medium size)

• Eight Piece Cap: 28cm / 11"
• JP Cap: 24cm / 9.5"
• Connery Cap: 24cm / 9.5"

The body shape and fit are the same on both styles – a streamlined, tailored fit.

The difference is the peak:

• Donegal Touring Cap: Curved, stitched‑down peak
• Tailor Cap: Flat, sewn‑down peak

Both are mariner‑style caps, but with
different fits:

Skipper Cap Tweed

• Full‑bodied fit
• Body depth: 7cm / 2¾"
• Band: 3.5cm / 1⅜"

Fisher Cap Tweed

• Neater, more compact fit
• Body depth: 5.5cm / 2"
• Band: 2cm / ¾"

We don’t weave our own fabrics. We source materials from a selection of trusted suppliers in Donegal, elsewhere in Ireland and across Europe. This allows us to offer a wide variety of materials, weights, colours and patterns.

Both are highly durable and long‑lasting when cared for correctly. Harris Tweed is generally coarser, whereas Irish Tweed has a softer finish.

The material origin (for example Donegal Tweed or Irish Tweed) is listed in the colour name above the colour swatches (squares) on each product page.

The fabric weight is shown above the colour name on each product page.

We like to give our customers a wide range of patterns to choose from, including:

• Checks (Glen Checks & Tartans)

• Patchwork and woven patchwork

No, the tweed is not lower quality tweed. We offer a wide range of tweeds varying in weights. Just because a tweed is lower in weight does not mean it is lower in quality. Some customers prefer the feeling of a lighter/heavier weight of tweed which is down to personal preference, or the climate of where they live may factor into the tweed they choose.

Yes, tweed is made from 100% wool.

Our caps are lined with a high‑quality acetate lining. We use two lining colours, and our team selects the most suitable one to complement the fabric.

We recommend our linen hats/caps for the warmer summer months or hot climates, they are available in the below styles:

• Vintage Cap Linen
• Donegal Touring Cap Linen
• JP Cap Linen
• Connery Cap Linen
• Pork Pie Hat Linen

These styles are available in solid colours, and some are available Patchwork Linen and Patchwork Linen Grey/Blue.

• Tweed, Linen & Cord: These materials are shower and rain resistant
  
• If your cap/hat gets soaked, place a small towel inside the cap and allow it to dry naturally indoors, away from heat
• Waxed Cotton: Water‑repellent, with up to 85% breathability

• Flat peaks: Recycled polypropylene plastic
• Curved peaks: Polypropylene plastic

We strongly recommend measuring your head before ordering from us.

• Measure around your head at the widest point with a tape measure (just above the ears and eyebrows).
• Note the measurement in centimetres or inches.
• Use our size chart to find your size.

Not necessarily, sizes can vary from one brand to another, so we always recommend you measure your head before ordering.

Yes, you should. For example, if you are a Medium in a Vintage Cap Tweed, we would recommend you order a Medium in a Walking Hat Tweed.

If you’re in between sizes, for example: 59.5cm, which is in between our Medium and Large, we would recommend you order a Medium and if it is slightly snug, we can advise you on how to stretch your cap slightly at home. If you need advice on how to do this, or any other help with sizing, please email us at info@hannahats.com and we’ll do our best to assist you.

Please be advised, we do not exchange or return custom sizes.

Yes, but only if it is slightly snug. We’re happy to advise you on how to do this safely at home.

Please email us at: info@hannahats.com before attempting to stretch your cap. Please be advised once it is stretched, it cannot be exchanged or returned.

 ⚠️ Hanna Hats is not responsible for damage that may occur when stretching at home.

No, our hats/caps cannot be safely shrunk, and we don’t recommend attempting this at home.

If your hat/cap is too big and you cannot exchange it for some reason, then some customers have purchased hat size adjusters online which have worked well
for them. Please be advised we do not sell these.

No, our hats/caps do not stretch over time.

We recommend gentle dry clean only for all our hats, caps, and accessories.

Yes, we can, but it’s important to note repairs are assessed on a case‑by‑case basis. Please email clear photos of the cap (inside and out) to info@hannahats.com to start the process.

⚠️ If approved for relining, your cap must be dry-cleaned before it is sent back to us, and you will need to send proof of dry cleaning to info@hannahats.com. Once confirmed, you can send the cap back to us and you will be invoiced for the repair and shipping.

• Relining cost: €25 plus shipping

We may be able to repair your cap, but this depends on the damage, so we will need to assess the cap before advising if we can repair it.

·If approved for repair, your cap must be dry-cleaned before it is sent back to us,
and you will need to send proof of drycleaning to info@hannahats.com

Once confirmed, you can send the cap back to us and you will be invoiced for the
repair and shipping.

 Please be advised, in some cases, repair
costs may be close to the price of a new cap due to the work involved in the
repair.

Yes. Simply enter your own address as the billing address and the recipient’s address as the delivery/shipping address at checkout.

• If your order is still in our workshop, we can usually make changes.
• If it has already been dispatched, we cannot change the style, size or colour, but we may be able to update the delivery address (additional charges may apply).

Yes. All prices shown on our website are inclusive of any applicable VAT.

Yes, although listed prices are inclusive of Value Added Tax (VAT), the rate of VAT may change depending on where you live.

• EU deliveries: VAT is charged at the destination country’s VAT rate.
• Non‑EU deliveries: Products and shipping are usually zero‑rated for Irish VAT, but the price shown remains the same.

• USA & Canada: Duties and taxes are calculated and paid at checkout. The price you see is the final price – no surprise charges on delivery.
• Other countries: Import duties may be charged upon delivery and are the responsibility of the recipient. Your courier will contact you about any relevant duties or fees.
